Still think I’m sexy?
A reclamation of Marilyn Monroe’s agency.
The choice to clothe Marilyn in a power suit, in conjunction with her confrontational pose, invites the viewer to reconsider what defines sexiness, and more importantly, what defines a woman. Is it the clothes that we wear, the way we conduct ourselves. Society often associates the suit with male dominance and power, I hope this drawing becomes a tool of subversion - she wears the suit not to please but to provoke.
While Monroe’s cultural impact is undeniable, we must as artists, as women and as people challenge the lense through which that impact has been framed.
